ESPN suspended reporter Britt McHenry for a week after a video which was released online shows her verbally berating an employee in a towing company.
In the video, Britt McHenry says, “That’s why I have a degree and you don’t, I wouldn’t work at a scumbag place like this. “This place makes my skin crawl even being here, yep, that’s all you care about is just taking people’s money. With no education, no skill set, just wanted to clarify that.” She went on to add that, “Do you feel good about your job? So I could be a college dropout and do the same thing? Because I have a brain and you don’t, maybe if I was missing some teeth, they would hire me, huh? Oh like, yours because they look so stunning, because I’m on television and you’re in a trailer honey, lose some weight baby girl.”
This is not the first time that the reporter has lost her cool, there was a time in which McHenry was upset because her car was towed and she tweeted that, “just got towed after eating dinner at an establishment in Artington. How corrupt is advanced towing?” Many people expressed their dislike with McHenry’s comment and they think her punishment is light considering the content of the video.
McHenry later apologized for her actions saying that she reacted on her impulse because she was upset at the moment; she tweeted “In an intense and stressful moment I allowed my emotions to get the best of me and said some insulting and regrettable things. As frustrated as I was, I should always choose to be respectful and take the high road. I am so sorry for my actions and will learn from this mistake”.
